Rabbit Rescue

I was up in my room when I heard a weird sound. I went downstairs, and my mom went outside to check what could be making that sound. We thought it might be a cat or maybe a really big bird.

It was very dark out so I brought a flashlight for Mom. We shined the flashlight on the ground, and we saw a rabbit. The rabbit was stuck in our chain link fence! It was crying itself crazy! It was trying to push its way through the fence, but it could not get through.

Mom tried to cut the fence with wire cutters, but it didn't work. I ran to our neighbor's house, and my friend's mom said that she would see if they had a tool we could use to cut the fence. She came quickly with a big pair of bolt cutters. Mom took the bolt cutters. She carefully put the bolt cutters between the fence and the rabbit. The rabbit was very still, and we were worried that it was dying. I couldn't even speak (and that is very unusual for me). Finally, Mom cut the fence.

But the rabbit was not rescued yet. The bunny did not even run away. It was so hurt that it just stayed in one spot. It even let us touch him. We put the rabbit in a cardboard box with a towel to keep him warm. Mom called a wildlife rescue person, and he said that he would take the rabbit to a wildlife rescue place. So we met the man at a nearby gas station and gave the rabbit to him.

I was sad to give the rabbit away. During the rescue, I named him Lester. I liked having him in our yard, but I'm happy because he's okay now. I hope he will be able to move back into the wild again one day. Actually, I really hope that he will move back underneath our shed one day. But he better be careful and not get stuck in the fence again. If he does, he might meet our dogs.

The end.

Red

Red

Fall leaves, ripe apples, Clifford, a rose.
Hot cinnamon, spicy cider I smell with my nose.

Hot peppers on my tongue, salsa with spice.
The crackly sound of a fire sure is nice.

Smooth and hot on my hand, a fuzzy winter hat on my head.
All of these things make me think of red.

Football Game!

On Saturday, it was a sunny, warm, blue sky day. Our whole family went to the football game. My brother plays the flute in the marching band. We sat up high in the stadium so we could see my brother. He is my favorite player in the band. I also like the gong player, the flags and the baton girls. I really like the band hats with the big white feathers. At the game, I bought a pink, soft sweatshirt with a hawk on it. The hawk is the mascot of my brother's school. GO HAWKS! The game was really fun, and I got a plastic football that the cheerleaders threw into the stands. I can't wait to go again. Maybe next time I will watch the game!

Riding my favorite horse on my favorite merry-go-round
is one of my favorite things to do!

Today's Science Lesson

Today we went to the swamp behind my neighborhood. I almost stepped on a praying mantis!

The praying mantis was waiting to catch something. A big spider came out and the praying mantis tried to catch it. After that, the praying mantis tried to catch me! It hopped on my boot and climbed up my leg. It was fast, and even though I like bugs, I screamed!

Then we went even further down to the stream to see if we could find any snakes. I heard the leaves crunch. I screamed again! It was a cat.

I hope you had a nice day too!

Thinking about books

For school, I keep a journal about the books I read. Reading is fun! I keep my journal because I want to remember all the things about the books and all the things that I thought about them. Here are some of my thoughts from my journal about a few books I've read so far:

Abel's Island
by William Steig
Abel is a mouse. He gets swept down a river and then he gets stuck on an island. This is a real adventure story! I liked it a lot. (My favorite part is the end, but I'm not going to tell you that part. You have to read it yourself if you want to know.)

Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone
by J.K. Rowling
I liked the book even better than I liked the movie because the book explained more about the story. In the book, they did all the spells that guard the sorcerer's stone, but they didn't do all that in the movie.

The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe
by C.S. Lewis
This book reminded me of Harry Potter because Harry did not know about magic. Neither did Lucy, Edmund, Susan or Peter, who are the kids in The Lion, the Witch & The Wardrobe.

Charlotte's Web
by E.B. White
Charlotte's Web is about a pig and a spider who have a few major problems. I loved this book. It told a really good story about how even if you are small, you can still do big things.

Please leave me a note in the comments if you think of some other books that I might like. Thanks!

My Dogs

I have two dogs. My Dad says that they will help me to learn things in third grade. I agree because my dogs are funny and smart.

My first dog is Patch.
He is a Golden Retriever. He sleeps, he plays, he eats and then he sleeps some more. He'll help me in third grade because he's cute, he's good for hugging, he keeps my feet warm, and he's good for falling asleep on top off. Kids do need a lot of sleep.

My second dog is Skipper.

He is a mutt. We think that he is part Golden Retriever and part jackal. Skipper will help me in third grade because he can spell. Patch can too. If you say, "E--A--T," they know that it is time to EAT! So you can see, my dogs are smart, and they'll be very helpful. They're good for show and tell too.

Here are some other true things about dogs. Dogs come from wolves. Dogs are mammals. Dogs don't see colors. They only see white and gray. Dogs can smell things really good, and they hear things really good too. That's why people use dogs for hunting, helping, finding things, and rescuing. They also make great pets.

My dogs are not just pets, they are my friends.

Third Grade!

I started third grade this week! This year, I'm doing math, science, history, geography, reading, spelling, music, dance and lots more. I'll be reading, writing, drawing and playing. I hope I go on tons of field trips too. I'll use my website to talk about things that I do and learn and like. I hope I"ll write about things like stuffed animals, dogs, places I go, things that I do, and books that I read. I hope you'll read this so you can come to third grade with me!
